Does it feel like the Easter holidays were only last week? Are you worried about coming up with a whole bunch of new ideas to keep the kids entertained? We know it can be stressful, so we’ve put together a list of fun-filled activities to keep the family happy and save you a job!
The Mitchell Arts Centre Cinema
Over the course of the half-term holiday, The Mitchell Arts Centre is showing a number of family- favourite animation films.
First on the agenda is ‘Encanto’, the new smash-hit Disney film, featuring the UK number-one single, ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’. This viewing is sure to have everybody singing along.
Next up is another Disney Pixar film, ‘Luca’. This animated coming of age film is definitely a mood booster, based on a young boy and his unforgettable summer.
The final film showing in the May holiday is ‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’, released in 2021.
All films are £3.50 per child ticket, which comes with one free adult ticket.

The Great Brtish Garden Party
Brighter weather makes it the perfect time for a garden party! Thanks to the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, there will be a garden party slap bang in the middle of half-term on the 5th of June, and everyone is invited!
There will be afternoon tea as well as lots of fun and games. The party will also include three free shows at 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm, with slapstick, audience interaction, comedy and games. It’s enough to have the whole family laughing.
There will also be a Beefeater as a special guest coming to join in the patriotic festivities.
Fastlane GoKarting
You can’t go wrong with go-karting and Stoke-on-Trent is home to Fastlane – a child-friendly indoor circuit.
At around £20 per person, it is a special treat but guarantees an exciting day out.
There are regular junior karting sessions for children between 8-12 years old, however, the family sessions are suitable for everyone about 8 years old.
Keele Observatory
Keele Observatory is a fantastic free option for half-term entertainment. The observatory is open to the general public, on Tuesday and Saturday evenings between 8 pm and 10 pm. Whilst in the summer months, it is not dark enough for stargazing, Keele still offers great views of the sun.
Staff will also show the public around the observatory, sharing lots of interesting celestial knowledge on Saturday afternoons between 1 pm and 3 pm.
Stoke Ski Centre
Skiing? In Stoke? Yes, you heard right. Whilst you might not be able to get away to the alps this year, you can still take the kids to get their skiing fix at the Stoke Ski Centre.
The ski centre is home to a dry slope, offering open practices, lessons and even birthday parties.
A 3-hour open session is priced at £16, so you definitely get your money’s worth.
Sessions are as follows, however, it is important that you pre-book.
- Monday, Tuesday, Friday – 17:00 pm– 20:00 pm
- Thursdays – 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
- Saturdays & Sundays – 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
