Genr8, in partnership with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, has taken home the regional award for the Midlands in the Planning & Placemaking Awards 2016, in recognition of its successful completion of the £55m first phase of the 1.2m sq ft (111,484 sq m) masterplan for Smithfield Stoke-on-Trent.
The two striking buildings designed by RHWL and constructed by Laing O’Rourke represent the first Grade A office accommodation to be made available in the region in a number of years, and were delivered in partnership with Stoke-on-Trent City Council as part of a wider regeneration strategy for the city.
No. 1 and No. 2 Smithfield provide 220,000 sq ft (20,439 sq m) of Grade A offices and customer service hub for Stoke-on-Trent City Council, set amongst extensive new public realm including a central public square and a new pedestrian boulevard connecting the site to the surrounding city centre.
Future phases of the development will include further commercial offices, residential and additional leisure uses creating an exemplar mixed use quarter for the city centre.
